From a psychological point of view, there are good reasons not to absolutize the natural need for touch, but to understand it in interaction with other, equally important principles of life and survival. Appropriate attitudes and behaviour towards shyness of touch can only be found if it is understood that any shyness of touch arises for good reasons, which can be very different for the person concerned. An important prerequisite for good contact is to be able to freely express one's needs as well as to say freely "yes"; and "no ". It is equally important to learn to understand the origins, with respect for everything that the participants feel, and to negotiate compromises in the present with which everyone can live as well as possible.
