Selbst- und Fremdzuschreibung religiöse und religionssoziologische Ambiguitäten der 5. Kirchenmitgliedschaftsuntersuchung der EKD

The thesis promoted in some contributions as well as in the title, preface and introduction of the KMU V, namely that distance to the church and lack of affiliation with a denomination would correlate with religious indifference, is above all based on the question of the religious self-perception of church members and non-denominational people. However, findings from the areas of sociology of knowledge, identity theory and methodology as well as further survey results of the KMU V and its predecessors corroborate the assumption that weak church affiliation and lack of denominational attachment are not necessarily associated with increasing irreligion. External religio-sociological ascriptions may well and legitimately contradict religious self-perceptions.
