The author reacts to the discussions about the ethical ambivalence of food banks (and the critique which discards them as inviting neglect in social politics). The human rights criteria leave space open for diverse practices. The author opts for a realistic view of the limits of the activating potential of food banks. Specific advantages of church related programs are outlined.
