Trost für Untröstliche? Friedrich Rückerts Kindertotengedichte in eschatologischer Perspektive
Zeitschriftenartikel

Friedrich Rückert's literary engagement with the horror of child death, prompted by the death of his two youngest children, opens a way to hope marked by Christian faith. To this day, Rückert's poems on child death are among the most famous texts dealing with such tragedy. Rückert seeks out and describes images of a hope that do not advocate eschatological futurization and consolation. In his eschatological presentism, which exhibits a variety of religious and cultural references, the emphasis of 'already' is impressed upon the eschatological future. Inspired by the love and grief experienced by parents who have lost a child, this contribution explores the extent to which prioritizing the 'already' over the 'not yet' is possible from an eschatological perspective.
