This contribution discusses first the synthetic concept of the body in Old Testament texts ascribing certain functions and effects to each body part. Beginning with terms for the body, implicit biases are explored in certain gender specific body concepts. The body concepts prove to be social constructs of a patriarchal, androcentric society that inscribes the relation towards God into the male body by circumcision. The meaning of nudity, clothes, adornment and public mourning rites demonstrates how deeply the body is embedded in social relations.
