This contribution summarizes the central statements of the "Denkschrift zu Fragen der Sexualethik" (memorandum on issues of sexual ethics) as of 1971. It describes its historical context and acknowledges its reorientation as a proposal for coexistence instead of legal decrees. Any limitation of the statements is explained by the adherence to the monopoly of monogamy as well as the medical and social-science knowledge of the committee members. Regarding further discourse the author warns against wrong considerateness of the Roman-Catholic position.
