Neu Weisungen zur Freiheit Normen und Werte aus alttestamentlicher Sicht
Zeitschriftenartikel

In this paper the author tries to show that the concept of freedom is fundamental for Old Testament ethics and crucial for the constitution of values and norms. According to his opinion the biblical texts scrutinized by him don't contain absolute values, they rather describe a certain "idea of existence" in terms of the relationship between God and (relieved) men, which leads to ethical implications. The author explores the motif of freedom in such texts, which seem to contain at first glance, numerous restrictions, namely the Ten Commandments as well as the three major codes of the Old Testament: the Book of the Covenant, the Deuteronomic law and the Holiness Code. In these texts various references can be found to the exodus from Egypt, which was the fundamental experience of freedom constitutive for Israel. The exodus motif is repeatedly used as motivation for human and social behaviour.
