This paper is based on the hypothesis that, in addition to professional nursing's focus on the individual and the internally and externally motivated focus on quality and standards in nursing, resulting value systems and reflective ethical reasoning have been, to date, of minor significance. Guiding this discussion is the basic understanding that professional nursing has a specific code of ethics at its centre. The significance of the resulting value systems in relation to their nursing importance within the context of nursing actions will be explored with this in mind. Therefore, this paper proposes to explain the aim of the relevance of ethical reflection and the ethically moral competence of reasoning as well as the relevance of a strong value system (parallel to the focus on the individual).
