Lothar Matthäus' father works as a caretaker in a factory that produces football shoes; his mother sews football shoes at home. Lothar plays football with his brother a lot and even though they break more than the occasional window, the shoe factory's owner recognises little Lothar's talent. He is sure the boy has a great career ahead of him and gives the father a pair of football shoes for his son. His advice: Lothar should join a club. Suddenly Lothar is supposed to play among older and taller boys. Luckily, he is confident enough to do it!
