This book is absolutely hilarious! If you think of going to Britain, take it with you (the British won't mind, they adore Mikes!). It is especially funny to see how little the British have changed since the book was first published in the 1940's. So many peculiar things Mikes noticed when he first came to Britain as a refugee are still the same. The British still worship cats universely, talk to their dogs more than to their spouses, are only offended when you tell them that they have no sense of humour and hardly ever lie but wouldn't dream of telling you the truth! Mikes' book seems to improve with age, just like a good wine. And that's how you should read it - sit down, put your feet up and have a real good laugh at and with the most loveable people in the world - the Brits. If you can, get a hold of the follow-ups "How to be decadent" and "How to be inimitable", or simply get "How to be a Brit", which combines all three titles.*amazon.de*
